If you're searching for a cozy corner in Mount Gambier that perfectly blends quality and comfort, look no further than Breaking Bread. Nestled at 3a Mitchell St, this charming café has swiftly established itself as a beloved local haunt, known for its warm atmosphere and mouthwatering menu offerings.

At Breaking Bread, the star of the show is undoubtedly their bagels. These are no ordinary bagels—each one is meticulously crafted to perfection. If you opt for the Slow Cooked Brisket with pickled onions and chimichurri, expect tender, flavorful meat enveloped in that ideal chewy bagel texture. Or perhaps the Pecorino Scrambled Egg topped with creamy cheese and crispy bacon crumb calls your name. The combination of rich flavors and fresh ingredients guarantees a delightful culinary experience.

But the bagels are just the beginning. The fresh sanga options such as the Mortadella with whipped feta and spinach or the Chopped Chicken with crispy bacon and aioli will leave you craving more. And don’t overlook the toasties—customers rave about the heart-stopping Pulled Pork and BEEF Brisket creations, which are oozy, melty, and simply irresistible.

The café atmosphere is exquisitely inviting, defined by its friendly staff who make you feel like part of the family from the moment you walk in. As one satisfied customer, Nigel Seidel, fondly noted, “This place has quickly become the go-to for breakfast in town.” The ambiance is enhanced by a thoughtfully curated playlist, which Michael Workman described as great taste in music adding to the overall experience.

Breaking Bread is more than just a café; it's a community gathering spot where you can enjoy quality food and feel connected. Every review speaks volumes about the customer experience. Libby Pemberton even drove all the way from Adelaide just to relive the joy of their outstanding bagels, exclaiming they were “even better than remembered.”

Whether you need a quick breakfast on the go or a leisurely brunch with friends, Breaking Bread is ready to serve up smiles with every bite. Make yourself at home, indulge in their delightful offerings, and let the friendly atmosphere wrap around you like a warm hug on a chilly morning.

Probably the best toastie I've ever eaten. Do yourself a favour and come here and try them. The focaccia was divine

Best breakfast in town — by a country mile! The bagels are elite — I’ve never left disappointed. This place has quickly become the go-to for breakfast in town. There’s always a great atmosphere, and the staff are super friendly — genuinely the best in the business. If I had one tiny wish? A nice fresh juice option (I’m not a coffee drinker! ) would take things to the next level. Well done Ben and crew — always a pleasure to kick off my Saturday morning here.

Came here about a year ago was absolutely wonderful. Made the drive here again from Adelaide just for the bagels to be even better than remembered. Staff are wonderful! The best bagels we’ve ever tried! Highly highly recommend

Great food, great service! Visited Breaking Bread as a breakfast stop whilst passing through Mt Gambier on a roadtrip, and was not disappointed. When we came in we were warmly greeted with a smile and a hello. We got a salmon cream cheese bagel, which was so good!! The bagel was toasted and warm, there was lots of smoked salmon, and the pickled onions and capers added a nice tartness to cut through the richness of the cream cheese and salmon. It was so filling that I had to share with my brother, so very worth the money. Also bought some really cute earrings for only $5 from the cafe, made by a girl called Charli. Thanks Charli! Only regret is that we don't live closer, so we could come regularly :( Highly recommend coming by for bagels and pretty earrings

The bagels are really yum!!! Simple as plain bagel with cream cheese is incredible!! Customer service is excellent!! My dad accidentally spilt his coffee and the staff were really helpful and even made a new coffee for him. Thank you very much!! We will definitely come again when we visit Mount Gambier!

The lady is super friendly! The bagels are so fresh and you can taste the flour is sweet! Seeds and sesames on it are roasted perfectly! The amounts of the fillings inside are generous! This shop is a gem. My picky toddler loves it and you know it’s good stuff!( coffee also good!
